2010 C6.R to Use Production-Based Block
Corvette Racing’s program manager Doug Fehan has recently confirmed that the engine for the 2010 C6.R Corvette will be a 5.5L version of the next-generation C6 production engine. Further enhancing its production based origins is the revelation that it will be produced at GM’s Performance Build Center in Wixom, MI, where Z06 and ZR1 engines are assembled. Earlier 6.0 and 7.0L versions of the C6.R engine were race-only applications, having only basic dimensions in common with street version engines.
Fehan confirmed that the new 5.5L V8 is currently undergoing dyno testing, and will make its racing debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March.
