New Biodegradable Packing Pouches Benefit the Environment and Our Customers
This week, Corvette Central will begin sending some customer packages filled with biodegradable air pouches in place of paper packing material. These air pouches, produced under Automated Packaging Systems “EarthAware” line, are 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
According to Automated Packaging Systems, “The new EarthAware Biodegradable Film is a strong, durable linear low-density polyethylene with a proprietary additive that causes biodegradation in nine months to five years, depending on exposure conditions. Material performance properties and shelf life remain intact, as biodegradation only occurs when in contact with other biodegrading material, such as the conditions found in landfills, home and commercial composting.
Biodegradable air pouches definitely benefit the environment, but our customers and our package carriers will see advantages as well. The use of air pouches instead of paper lightens the package, resulting in lower shipping costs. Lighter truckloads will also result in lower fuel consumption.
Corvette Central Operations Director Geoff Nash sums it up nicely: “Just another way that Corvette Central is getting greener and greener every day.”
