Corvette Car Show Season in Full Swing

Matt • August 11, 2010

To some, the month of August signifies more than blistering temperatures and Back-To-School sales.  If you’re a Corvette fan, August means car show season.  Corvette Central will have a presence at some of the well-known Corvette gatherings, and some of the local favorites as well.  Click on the blue links below for more information about each event.

The 10th Anniversary Edition of the Corvettes America show is “Michigan’s largest all Corvette weekend”.  The event, held on August 13-14th, includes a track day at the Waterford Hills Race Track and a car show at Pine Knob Golf Course in Clarkston, MI.  The show has expanded this year to include activities on the day and evening prior to the show.

August 14 and 15th marks the Midwest Corvette and Chevy Show in Valparaiso, IN.  Featuring an auction, live music, a beer garden and more, this show is a must-see in the tri-state area.

The week of August 16th is a doozy if you live near or travel to the eastern side of lower Michigan.  The Woodward Dream Cruise, billed as the largest single-day car event in the country, typically has over 1,000,000 spectators.  The event is officially held on the 21st, but those in the know put a lawn chair alongside Woodward Ave. during the preceding weeknights for the best action.  Cars can travel up the fabled Woodward Avenue from the Detroit suburbs (Berkley, Ferndale, Royal Oak, Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills) up to Pontiac, with events and festivities planned at every city along the way.  Travel a bit further north to witness Back to the Bricks in Flint, MI.  Billed as one of the Top 50 Car Cruises in America, this show is steadily gaining in popularity.  The US23 Drive In Theater officially kicks off the event with Bricks Flicks, Tuesday the 17th at 5:00.

Most Corvette fanatics have attended Corvettes at Carlisle in Carlisle, PA (August 27-29) at least once in their lives.  If not, make it this year.  Billed as the world’s largest Corvette extravaganza, the weekend is packed with activities, including entertainment, seminars and the famous Corvette parade.  Corvette Central will be back at Carlisle this year.  Look for us under the blue tents!

August 27th and 28th is the weekend for the annual Corvette Crossroads Auto Show in scenic Mackinaw City, MI.  Enjoy entertainment, a Poker Walk, and a parade across the Mackinac Bridge (free to all registered Corvettes).  In your down time, take a ferry ride over to Mackinac Island.  No cars allowed, but you’ll barely miss them as you enjoy the majestic scenery, famous Mackinac fudge and tour Fort Mackinac.

Here are some smaller local shows happening around the country in August.  Hopefully there’s an event near you!
